The ‘Rural Experience Day Out’ was funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and coordinated by RWAV. It was held in Gippsland in June, 12 Pre-clinical students attended from varied disciplines including medicine, optometry, pharmacy and physiotherapy.
The program focussed on promoting opportunities available in rural health careers and encouraging students to consider rural clinical placements. Students travelled to the Latrobe Valley as a group, where small groups visited a practitioner in their discipline.
Participants engaged in an Aboriginal cultural experience at Ramahyuck District Aboriginal Corporation in Morwell, and the day was concluded with a tour of the Latrobe Regional Hospital. The participants found the day to be extremely valuable and made them very excited about the prospects of working rurally.
