Introduction
The Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System recommended the Victorian Government establish a new incentive scheme to address workforce supply challenges in rural and regional Victoria. The Department of Health (the department) launched the Regional Mental Health Workforce Incentives program in July 2022. This program is part of Victoria’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Workforce Strategy 2021-2024 (the Strategy) and is supported by investment from the 2021–22 Victorian State Budget. The Regional Mental Health Workforce Incentives program aims to:- Support the attraction, relocation, and retention of mental health and alcohol and other drug (AOD) workers to priority positions in state-funded mental health and AOD services across rural and regional Victoria.
- Support individuals and their families (including chosen family) to move and settle into rural and regional Victorian communities.
The program
The Regional Mental Health Workforce Incentives program includes the following elements:Workforce relocation and incentive grants
Candidates relocating may be eligible for grants of up to $20,000. Grants are designed to support recruitment, relocation and settlement expenses. This may include covering removalist and/or travel fees, accommodation costs, costs associated with setting up a home in a new location and school fees, for example.Integration support for workers and their families
Local community navigators have been recruited to ensure candidates are adequately supported prior to employment, during relocation, and throughout their settlement into local communities and their new workplace.Service Eligibility
