The Census collects vital data across rural and regional Victoria, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander healthcare services. It directly informs the Victorian Health Workforce Needs Assessment (HWNA), a key reporting requirement under the Commonwealth Rural Health Workforce Support Activity Program [RHWSA], managed by RWAV. The HWNA is developed annually using Census data, which is cross-checked with population stats, ABS data, rural PHN needs assessments and insights from the 80-member RWAV Health Workforce Stakeholder Group (HWSG).
This evidence-based assessment helps shape strategies that improve access, quality, and sustainability of healthcare services in rural and regional Victoria.
