Workshop information
Girraway Ganyi Consultancy, led by AJ Williams-Tchen, offers Aboriginal cultural insight and training to help individuals, organizations, and communities work more effectively with Indigenous clients and families. Their services focus on building cultural safety, increasing mental health literacy, and fostering respectful engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
These sessions will focus on;
- Understanding the historical context, cultural nuances, and contemporary social dynamics within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- Building Relationships: Emphasizing the importance of trust, respect, and honest communication in building long-term relationships with Indigenous clients and communities.
- Cultural Safety: Promoting culturally safe practices that recognise and value Indigenous knowledge and perspectives.
- Practical Tips: Providing practical advice on how to engage with Indigenous clients, families, and communities in a culturally appropriate manner.
Eligibility Criteria
- Health professionals in the fields listed below, who provide services full or part-time in the private or non-government primary health sector (e.g. general practice, private allied health practitioner or a non-government agency)
- Any health professional employed solely by the Victorian Government is not eligible to apply
- Health professionals must be working in Victoria
- Health professionals must work in an MMM3-7 location, or MMM1-7 if working in an Aboriginal Medical Service (AMS) or Aboriginal Controlled Community Health Organisation (ACCHO) or be a current funded RWAV Outreach provider . You can check the MMM status of your work location via the Health Workforce Locator
- Students are eligible, provided they are studying a health discipline in one of the fields below, at a Victorian University or Victorian Tertiary Education Provider and must provide a valid student ID card that indicates Victorian University or Victorian Tertiary Education Provider
- Staff in non-clinical roles may be eligible on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of RWAV.
