Work in Country Victoria: Support to Fellowship

Rural Workforce Agency Victoria (RWAV) supports general practitioners to pursue a rural career in Victoria through a free recruitment service and professional development opportunities.

Our aim is to ensure a sustainable health workforce in Victoria’s rural, regional and Aboriginal communities. This includes GPs in training seeking permanent positions before and after fellowship.

For doctors pursuing entry into an ACRRM Independent Pathway, RACGP Practice Experience Program (PEP) or RVTS streams RWAV also helps you to find eligible job positions.

Our recruitment team use a comprehensive approach for your placement and settlement – assessing your eligibility, skills, experience and professional and educational goals to match you with a practice to suit your needs. Services are free of charge and on-going post-placement support for you and your family is also provided.

Some of the support you can expect from RWAV include:

  • Finding you suitable positions
  • CV advice and tips
  • Coordinating interviews and providing feedback
  • Assisting with employment negotiations
  • Providing advice on registration if needed
  • Relocation grants
  • Medical professional development grants
  • You will be assigned a RWAV Regional Support Officer who will travel to have face to face discussions about what support you need once you have settled in to your role

RWAV will guide you through the recruitment process and work to match you and your family with the most ideal position, practice and community.

Meet Dr Singh from Mildura

With a background as an orthopaedic surgeon working in India and the UK, Dr Swapnil Singh made the decision to move to Australia in 2014 after visiting his brother in law and seeing what life as a country GP had to offer. Having recently been recruited to Lime Medical Clinic in Mildura through RWAV, Dr Singh shares with us his rural GP journey in country NSW and Victoria, and why Mildura is the right place for him and his family.
