Job description

  • GP Obstetrician (VMO position)
    Part Time – up to 7.5  hours a fortnight ($177 per hour plus GST)

Make a difference in rural health with this new opportunity to support General Practitioners (GPs) in rural Victoria. Help meet identified community and workforce need, enable succession planning and support safe practice and quality care.  

The primary function of the Clinical Lead, Obstetrics is to coordinate and develop the delivery of Obstetric GP training posts in rural and regional Victoria that lead to the award of DRANZCOG Advanced for medical practitioners. Much of the work in this role will be accomplished through on-going support to medical practitioners in the training posts (face to face, video and/or teleconferencing). Travel expenses will be reimbursed.

Your Contributions

You will be responsible for establishing and maintaining working relationships with stakeholders including directors of hospital obstetrics departments, RTO Medical Educators, the Conjoint Committee for the Diploma of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, ACRRM and RACGP-Rural, training post Supervisors, regional and rural health services to:

  • deliver curriculum oversight to ensure College requirements are met;
    • participate in the selection and interview process of candidates and
    • monitor training across posts to ensure consistency;
    • evaluate training posts for Advanced DRANZCOG;
    • provide individualised training advice to ensure trainee progress in accordance with DRANZCOG curriculum requirements, College standards and contractual obligations.

About you

To be successful in this role you need to have:

  • full unconditional Specialist Vocational Registration in general practice registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA)
  • hold the Advanced DRANZCOG or equivalent
  • currency of clinical practice in Obstetrics
  • demonstrated sound understanding of educational principles and methods of teaching
  • understand the requirements of Obstetrics training and be able to give accurate training advice to trainees and potential trainees, and assess suitability for training posts
  • strong knowledge of existing networks and how obstetrics training operates across rural and regional Victoria.
