Practice Nurse RN/EN: Nyora

Position Description:

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Registered or Endorsed Enrolled nurse to join this newly established growing private practice located in the small rural town of Nyora only 3o minutes from Packenham.

As the sole practice nurse you will ensure smooth and efficient functioning of the practice and provide an exceptional standard of care to your patients who are a typical rural and farming community.

Your role will include;

  • Triage, immunisations and other injections; wound management, chronic disease management, ECG’s and collection of pathology samples
  • Assisting doctors with clinical procedures and maintaining clinical documentation
  • Conducting preventative/screening procedures; assist with patient education and community health promotion activities
  • Co-ordinate patient reminders and outreach programs and GP management plans and team care arrangement
  • Maintenance of clinical equipment, stocks of clinical supplies, including correct storage (such as refrigeration), removal of out-of-date stock and ordering supplies
  • Provide input in purchasing relevant clinical equipment and supplies
  • Compliance- maintain awareness of current and new legislation to ensure business is complying with all statutory and regulatory obligations including infection control, sterilisation, hazardous materials & safe handling/disposal of medical waste, records management, OHS, and accreditation
  • Ensure relevant personnel are kept informed and changes are made to systems and procedures as required
  •  Maintain awareness of current evidence and research on clinical practices and inform/educate other practice staff

Key Essential Criteria (Please address this in your cover letter)

  • Appropriate tertiary qualification & AHPRA registration
  • Minimum of one year’s nursing experience as practice nurse or community-based nurse
  • Demonstrated understanding of the needs of general practice and interest in community-based nursing including patient education and health promotion
  • Knowledge of current immunisation schedules, Diabetes management, asthma management, enhanced primary care items, infection control, CPR and emergency resuscitation techniques, equipment & drugs
  • Competence in the use of relevant equipment & practice software.
  • Experience with specific social groups serviced by practice, such as adolescents, aged care, migrant or refuge groups, aboriginals & Torres Straight islanders, etc.
  • Additional qualifications such as Accredited Women’s Health Certificate, Diabetes Education Certificate, Asthma/Spirometry qualification/education
  • Training or experience in Medicare item numbers & health funds
  • Professional indemnity cover

Practice Details:

Nyora medical centre is newly established accredited clinic with an on-site pharmacy, which is well supported by the local community, has a strong emphasis on customer service and welcomes walk-ins.

There is a team of 4 GPs, allied health staff consisting of Physio, Dietitian , Mental Health clinician and support from  the Practice Manager, GPs and Nurse who are located at their main clinic in Koo Wee Rup (located 20 minutes away).

Nyora is a small township nestled in the rolling hills of South Gippsland southeast of Melbourne. The town has boutique shops, restaurants, a supermarket, butchers, bakery and a petrol station. It is only a 50 minute drive to the large tourist town of Phillip Island – where you can see the Penguin Parade and have access to great beaches. The nearby growing town of Koo Wee Rup is located 20 minutes away.
