GP Locum: Omeo Medical Centre (URGENT)

Position Description:

  • Accommodation provided by host practice and reasonable travel expenses covered
  • Solo practice, covered by rotation of repeat GPs with full nursing support
  • Clinic to provide vehicle for use on arrival and local travel outside of work

Please note: this practice utilises permanent locum model so prefer GPs who will do repeat placements  – welcome expressions of interest or offers of availability !

Practice Hours: (Covid 19 has effected standard practice/working hours please enquire)

The locum will practice at: Omeo Medical Centre within ODH, Swift’s Creek Bush Nursing Centre & Ensay Bush Nursing Centre. Both Bush Nursing Centres have a Nurse who provides Practice Nurse Support.

Sunday and Public Holiday Clinics 

After-hour clinic: 3:00pm – 7:00pm at Omeo.

You can request to start earlier especially during winter e.g.: 2:00pm – 6:00pm.

Weekday start time are 8:30am at the nurses station, this is to attend any nursing home resident & acute patient’s requirements for the nursing staff.

Monday and Wednesday 

8:15 – 8:45am – nursing home/acute visits prior to clinic start time

8:45 – 5:00pm – Omeo Clinic (11:30 – 1:30pm lunch break)

Tuesday 

8:00 – 8:30am – nursing home visits prior to travelling to Ensay clinic

9.30am – 12:00pm – Ensay Clinic

1:30 – 4:30pm – Swift’s Creek Clinic

Thursday 

8.30 – 9:00am – nursing home/acute visits prior to clinic start time

9:00am – 12:00pm – Omeo Clinic

2:00 – 4:30pm – Swift’s Creek Clinic

FRIDAY

8.30 – 9:00 am – nursing home/acute visits prior to clinic start time

9:00am – 12:00 pm – Omeo clinic

On-call/after-hours required

On-call from Sunday arrival 3:00pm until departure on Friday 12:00pm. All of Friday, Saturdays & Sunday if working more than 1 week.

Fees: Offering $650 per session plus GST (nine clinics Mon-Fri)

Sunday AH Clinic $800 plus GST (four hours)

On-call per day $200/day, public holidays $250

100% of Medicare, on Emergency, Nursing Home & Acute Visits

Reimbursement of travel and accommodation up to $500 with receipts

Role: Working as a solo GP at clinic and covering Swift’s Creek & Ensay Bush Nursing Centres three clinics per week. Also required to do VMO and on-call at Omeo District Health aged care facility (14 beds) and four acute care beds. You will be well supported by urgent care experienced nursing and practice staff.  Call-outs average of 1-2 call outs before 11:00 pm per week and 1-2 call outs per month after 11:00pm.

Practice Details:

The Omeo Medical Centre has a full-time practice manager/receptionist, Tracey Ah Sam (Monday-Friday) & part-time practice nurse, Annie Kissane (Monday, Wednesday & Thursday). The Centres use Medical Director & Pracsoft software and medical records are completely computerised.

Outreach primary care services are provided to Swifts Creek Bush Nursing Centre and Ensay Bush Nursing Centre.

The Omeo Medical Centre is an accredited, computerised practice operated by Omeo District Health. It has a well-equipped consulting room and a treatment room. A rotation of doctors are supported by highly experienced nursing and administration staff. The main patient health issues for the clinic are aged care, chronic disease and family health.

The practice provides services to the Omeo District Hospital which has four acute beds, an emergency treatment room and 14 aged care beds and also two bush nursing centres. Allied health services available include physiotherapy, OT, social work, speech therapy, and dietetics. Bulk billing applies for health care holders, aged pension and disability card holders.

  • Omeo District Health consists maintains one mixed ward staffed by one Registered Nurse and two enrolled nurses each morning and evening shift and one RN and one EN overnight it includes:
    • An aged care facility (10 high and 4 low care beds)
    • Acute care (4 beds)
    • Urgent Care Centre
    • A hospital based Transitional Care Bed
  • District Nursing
  • Allied Health
  • Home & Community Care (HACC)
  • Public Dental Clinic (One week per fortnight provided by the RFDS)
