GP Locum: Edenhope

Position Description:

  • Solo Practice
  • VMO and on-call (minimal call outs)
  • Small hospital and aged care

Required dates: 2 March onwards – welcome any expressions of interest!

Fees: $1700 per day, travel expenses covered and accommodation provided. A beautiful modern self-contained unit directly across from the hospital is made available for the locum free of charge.

Practice Hours: Monday – Friday, 9:00 – 5:00 pm

Role: Locum required to cover the clinic, hospital ward rounds, nursing home visits and on-call. Minimal call outs (2 category 1 and 22 cat 2 presentations to UCC last year) overall the work load is not too busy. Doctor is supported by experienced and skilled nursing and hospital staff.

Practice Details:

Edenhope and District Memorial Hospital is a small rural health service with three consulting rooms within the GP clinic.

The hospital was founded in 1930 and originally occupied a small house. Over the years various relocations, additions, renovations and expansions provide the current services:

  • 20 bed acute hospital including haemodialysis and urgent care
  • Kowree Nursing Home, 18 bed high care
  • Residential Lakes Hostel, 22 bed low care residential aged care currently undergoing re development
  • Elsie Bennett Community Health Centre

Out of hours limb x-rays can be attended to by a registered, radiology trained, nurse and there is a visiting radiology service provided by Bendigo Radiology.

Collection of pathology is made at the hospital with pathology services through Horsham. Most patients requiring specialist care are referred to Mt Gambier, Horsham, Hamilton, Naracoorte and Ballarat.

The emergency department at the  Edenhope and District Memorial Hospital is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and has trained RIPERN nurses available to triage presentations.

Edenhope, population of 1,000, is built on the banks of Lake Wallace, a thriving district 30 km from the South Australia border.

Edenhope is well known for its rock climbing at Mount Arapiles, said to be the best in Australia. The beautiful Grampians National Park is only 90 minutes away and in the other direction you have the fantastic beaches of Robe, Nelson and Port Fairy.

You will be fascinated with Edenhope and the surrounding areas which are dotted with chains of wetlands, lakes and majestic Red Gums. Lake Wallace has been known for great fishing from the bank or boat and is stocked with redfin and trout.

The town also offers horse racing, golf, cricket, swimming, fishing, and tennis, and has a wide range of retail and antique shops, bakery, café and hotel.
