About Tatura-

Tatura is a rural township in northern Victoria and the Murray-Goulburn basin in which Tatura is situated is considered to be the food bowl of Victoria.  Tatura owes its wealth to the irrigated farming that has developed in the area. The area produces fruit and vegetables, cereals, dairy products, cattle and sheep. It has an expanded industry based on food processing such as tomato canning, milk products and abattoir.

The town has a good choice of recreational, sporting and community facilities including football, cricket, bowls, golf, soccer, fishing, netball, racing and tennis.   There are many wineries along the Goulburn River between Seymour and Shepparton some such as Chateau Tahbilk and Mitchelton are very long – established wineries. Tahbilk first planted vines in 1860 and Mitchelton was established in 1869. The area produces numerous varieties and specialises in Marsanne, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz.

For fishing enthusiasts, the Goulburn River contains redfin, Murray Cod, carp and freshwater crayfish and the Waranga Reservoir contains mostly redfin, some brown trout, goldfish, carp, tench and golden perch. Spiny freshwater crayfish are also common.   The Waranga Reservoir is also home to boat launches if you are interested in spending a day enjoying the sun on the water.

International Dairy Week is held in January each year attracting people from around Australia and overseas to Tatura.  The Taste of Tatura Food and Wine festival is held in March each year. The festival showcases food and wine from the region, music and entertainment.
