Stepping in to utilise your Obstetric and GP skills to assist the community, you will commence in a full-time capacity completing 4 to 5 days per week plus on-call rotations across the clinic and hospital. You can expect to treat approximately 25- 30 patients per day and settle into a very friendly environment where you will be welcomed as a community-based GP.

The practice has VMO rights to Benalla Health providing outpatient, inpatient and aged care services. Your recognised JCCO (or equivalent) qualification and procedural skills will be essential and highly regarded.

An excellent orientation and induction program will assist the new doctor settle into the practice and ongoing mentorship is available. The family and GP are offered extensive assistance through the practice and the North East Victoria Division of General Practice to find accommodation, schools and to access community groups and social opportunities.

Essential Criteria

  • Fellow of the RACGP or ACRRM
  • Completion of training with JCCO (or equivalent), and independence in C-sections
  • Recency of practice as per Clinical experience and RANZCOG CPD requirements

Practice Details:

The Benalla Church Street Surgery is a well established, accredited, computerised teaching practice. Currently 10 doctors are supported by a practice manager, practice nurse and an experienced administration team. Services provided in the treatment room include minor excisions, immunisations, wound management, ECGs, ear syringing and medicals.

Practice hours are Monday – Friday 8.30am – 6:00pm and Saturday 8.30am – 12:00pm. After hours on-call commitments are about 1:10. The major patient health issues that impact on the practice are aged care and child and maternity related.

Benala Health provides acute care (medical, surgical and midwifery), aged care (a 30 bed nursing home) and community health services to Benalla and the surrounding areas. The Hospital does not have salaried medical staff and the local GPs are rostered to provide A&E support. Benalla Health currently has two operating theatres, three fully contained birthing suites, six urgent care beds, 40 inpatient beds, and is ‘Baby Friendly’ accredited.

The rural city of Benalla is situated 2 hours north of Melbourne on the main road and rail route between Melbourne and Sydney.

Benalla’s bustling commercial centre begins at the eastern bank of Lake Benalla, mainly centred along the thoroughfare of Bridge Street and neighbouring Nunn Street.  Surrounding Benalla are a number of natural attractions and parks worth exploring. The vast Winton Wetlands are located to the north-east, providing a sanctuary covering thousands of hectares for native flora and fauna. To the south is Reef Hills State Park, with its eucalypt forests and wildflowers, while further south is Mount Samaria State Park with granite outcrops and scenic alpine vistas.
