As part of the 2015-18 strategic plan RWAV is focusing on supporting the development of rural health careers in Victoria.
Rural and regional secondary school students are exposed to careers in health. We encourage careers in medicine, nursing, midwifery and allied health, the program recognises that recruitment and retention of a rural health workforce is crucial in supporting the significant health needs of rural communities in Victoria.
Raising student aspiration with early exposure to careers in health, clear pathways into tertiary studies, the provision of rich rural experiences during the undergraduate and postgraduate years and health education grants form the basis of activity for RWAV’s Future Workforce strategy.
The Future Workforce Program is committed to collaborating with and supporting stakeholders across education and health in rural and regional Victoria.
Medicine, nursing and allied health students and early career professionals with a commitment to practicing in a rural community in Victoria are eligible to apply for a rural ambassador leadership grant. Eligible activities include leadership development, accessing mentoring programs and attending rural health conferences.
The rural health career promotion grant is available for medicine, nursing and allied health students and professionals wanting to undertake an activity in a rural community in Victoria promoting rural health careers.

RWAV offers Rural Clinical Placement Grants to eligible health students. Grants will cover some of the costs associated with accommodation and travel during clinical placements in rural and regional locations (RA 2-5) and must be applied for prior to commencement of placement.
Register now if you are a 1st or 2nd year medicine, nursing and allied health student interested in participating in a “Rural Experience Program”. This will provide an opportunity to experience a rural clinical setting before committing to a Rural Clinical Placement as part of your degree.
