RWAV offers seeding grants of up to $11,000 (GST inclusive) to communities, rural Divisions of General Practice, individual GPs, Local Government and other interested groups, to support general practice sustainability and increase access to services for rural communities.
Many factors can impact on general practice sustainability and viability within a town or community.
These include the difficulty in recruiting and retaining GPs, changes or reductions in existing local health services such as hospital or pharmacy services, increasing workloads for existing GPs as well as changes to population demographics.
This program supports a range of proposals such as:
- Feasibility studies into alternative models of GP service provision, such as branch practices from neighbouring towns or the virtual amalgamation of practices within a town or between towns.
- Trialing alternative after-hours support for GP services to the community.
- The role of nurse practitioners supporting rural general practice.
- Research into workforce requirements for particular towns or communities.
- Other proposals considered worth testing.
RWAV's Area Managers provide guidance to communities in developing and managing appropriate and relevant projects, and proposals are required to meet pre-determined criteria.
