Goals
- To increase the quality and accessibility of CPD to Victorian Rural GPs;
- To encourage high quality CPD for rural GPs by rural GPs;
- To encourage Divisions to provide family activities at events to increase participation.
Guidelines
Grants totalling $6,600.00 (inclusive of GST) per Rural Division of General Practice (RWAV member) per financial year may be awarded by the Rural Assessment Panel (RAP) for Divisional CPD Events, which are assessed as meeting the criteria as set out below.
A grant for an event must be no more than the actual cost of the event and is subject to variation once the reporting requirements have been assessed.
An additional amount of $1,100.00 (inclusive of GST) per Rural Division of General Practice (RWAV members) per year is available from RWAV’s Rural Medical Family Support Program for the provision of a family activity program at the CPD event.
Applications
In order to apply for the RWAV grant an application form must be completed. The closing date for applications is at least two months prior to the proposed events.
Applicants are invited to advertise their events on the RWAV Web Pages.
Eligibility Criteria
- Only major CPD events comprising at least the total of one full day’s program, will be eligible for a grant. This may be spread over e.g. two half days or series of evenings.
- Divisions may utilise this grant for the purpose of supporting their ROMPs who are not eligible for the DOHA Rural Examination Preparation Program (for RLRP and Five Year Scheme) to prepare for relevant examinations (FACRRM, FRACGP via practice pathway, or AMC examinations). Eligibility is only received if no other support is available. The ROMPs Exam Prep Program must receive prior approval by RAP.
- The event must be family friendly.
- RWAV will only fund Divisional CPD activities that generate 12 or more CPD points as specified under the RACGP Quality Assurance & Continuing Professional Development Program or ACRRM Professional Development Program or equivalent as specified by RWAV, and that evidence of application for points allocation must be supplied in the application
- All Victorian Rural GPs are to be welcome to attend with invitations being forwarded to all rural and regional Divisions of General Practice and the GPDV for notification to rural GPs.
- The payment of grants for Divisions CPD Events will be made on approval by the Rural Assessment Panel.
- Events which attract a grant must aim to improve clinical practice in areas of identified rural and remote skills shortages and needs.
- The budget for events should follow the RWAV budgetary guidelines.
- The following statement is to be placed on all promotional material:
“This event is proudly sponsored by RWAV and acknowledges the funding and support from the Department of Health and Ageing.”
Budgetary Guidelines
- The RWAV funds are not to be used to finance expenditure for catering, entertainment, or food and alcohol for event dinners.
- RWAV encourages Divisions to seek additional sponsorship from appropriate bodies to support professional development events and providing those sponsors with acknowledgement of their support, but does not support those organisations having input into the educational program.
- Divisions who charge their members registration fees to attend their CPD Event must advise their members that they are not eligible to apply for an RWAV Individual Clinical Skills Grant for attendance at this Event, as RWAV considers this subsidy to include for the rural doctor’s CPD participation.
Reporting Requirements
Reports for Divisional CPD Events are to be submitted within two months of completion of the event for which a grant has been approved. The reports must include:
- A detailed statement of Receipts and Expenditure,
- A table listing GP attendees and their practice locations,
- A list of other attendees,
- A copy of promotional material, program and handouts,
- An analysed event evaluation,
