Where is Victoria?

Situated in the south east corner of Australia, Victoria is the smallest mainland state and the most densely populated, with just over 5 million residents.

Most Victorians live in the capital city of Melbourne, but those in most of Victoria’s rural communities are well supported by large vibrant regional centres nearby.

Regardless of where you choose to relocate to, you’re never going to be more than several hours drive from Melbourne or one of our major regional centres, like Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo, Shepparton, Mildura or Warnambool.

Our Regions

Victoria is home to many interesting and diverse regions that are great to live in or visit.

North-east

Bordered by the magnificent Murray River, the north-east corner of Victoria is geographically varied, with lakes, rivers, towering mountains, snow-capped in winter, and undulating fertile farmland. It is a mecca for those who enjoy the great outdoors and the acclaimed local gourmet food and wines. Main regional centres include Shepparton, Wangaratta and Wodonga.

North-west

This area is renowned for its big skies, rich earth, warm weather and welcoming locals. Its cultural diversity is derived from the post-war European migrants whose hard work established the majority of Victoria’s farmland. Main regional centres include Mildura, Echuca, Bendigo and Horsham.

South-east

With its picturesque rolling green hills, rainforests, snow fields, rivers and excellent coastal beaches, this region has something for everyone. National parks, gourmet food and a multi-cultural population make it a great place to live. Main regional centres include Wonthaggi, Moe, Traralgon, Morwell, Sale and Bairnsdale.

South-west

The vibrant and exciting south-west region boasts the enviable combination of space and healthy and diverse lifestyle opportunities. The historic wealthy dairy, agricultural and pastoral district is ideally situated close to a coastline that offers challenging surf, family beaches, forests and cliff top walks. Main regional towns include Ballarat, Geelong and Warrnambool.

Our lifestyle

Victoria is one of the world’s greatest migration success stories.

Victorians come from over 200 countries, speak over 180 languages and dialects and follow over 110 religious faiths. 43.6% of Victoria’s population was born overseas or have a parent who was born overseas. More than 100,000 international students study in Victoria.

The result? A vibrant, colourful multicultural community delivering exciting shopping experiences, marvellous restaurant cuisine and wonderful religious and cultural festivals embraced by all.
