Vacancy Details
The Yarram and District Health Service (YDHS) has two full-time positions (6-10 sessions) available at the Yarram Medical Centre. No procedural skills are required but experience performing minor surgical procedures is necessary. VMO rights to Yarram & District Health Service including casualty and aged care facilities are available. After hours and on-call are rostered between the two clinics in Yarram with a commitment of 1:4.

Comprehensive orientation and induction is provided to ensure a smooth transition into the practice and ongoing mentorship and support is available. Staff members of the Yarram & District Health Services will be actively involved in welcoming the new GP and family to the community. Assistance is provided to source suitable accommodation and schooling and to access community, sporting and arts organisations. The family is supported with introductions to community leaders and social opportunities.
 
The Package
The successful GP may nominate to be a YDHS employee or independent contractor on percentage. As an employee the package offers 6 weeks annual leave, sick leave, study leave, long service leave, 9% superannuation and salary packaging.

Other workplace incentives are available to both employees or contractors. Rent free accommodation is provided in the first year. A relocation expense subsidy is also available. Depending on negotiated employment package or contract, YDHS is prepared to offer $200K guaranteed for the first year; with a potential for $250K earnings in subsequent years. The initial contract period is negotiable for 18 months to three years; and up to five years. A draft contract is available.
 
Practice Profile
The Yarram Medical Centre is situated in modern well equipped amenities within the Yarram and District Health Service (YDHS) facilities. The accredited, computerised teaching practice has more than 5 consulting rooms and a state of the art treatment room. Currently two doctors are supported by a practice nurse and an experienced administration team. The doctors and practice staff are committed to delivering high quality medical care to individuals and families of the Yarram and district community. Procedures include small surgical procedures (lumps and bumps), pap smears, patient education, health promotion, lung clinic, plasters and ECG. The demographics of the practice are typical of many rural practices with aged care, drug and alcohol issues and maternity and child health impacting.

Practice hours are Monday - Friday 8.30 am - 5.00 pm and Saturday 9 am - 12 noon. The GP has 1 afternoon off per week and the Saturday clinic is rostered. A doctor from 1 of the 2 practices in Yarram is rostered through the YDHS to provide 24 hours on-call service for urgent medical treatment outside clinic hours. The after hours and on-call commitments are 1:4.

YDHS is a 50 bed facility providing acute care services, including 24 hour accident and emergency care, general medical and post surgical care, rehabilitation, respite, dialysis, palliative care and aged care to a catchment population of 6,500. The practice affiliation with YDHS ensures full access to a comprehensive range of services, many of which are located alongside the medical practice. These include an allied health department with physio and occupational therapy, speech pathology services and a visiting dietician. Welfare, counselling, district nursing and maternal and child care services are also on site. Visiting allied health practitioners and specialists include a surgeon, physician, psychologist, optometrist, paediatrician and a female GP.

About the Area

Yarram (population 2,000) is at the heart of some of the most beautiful country in Gippsland and boasts many architecturally significant historic buildings. It is the principal service hub for the area with a vibrant commercial centre and local government organisations. The Yarram CBD is modest in size but most items can be purchased in the town from the many specialty retail outlets. Primary production (eg. dairy, beef), timber, fishing, transport and oil refinery industries, tourism and boutique enterprises, such as wineries and specialty food producers, provide employment in the district.

Yarram has good pre-school, primary and secondary education facilities and a bus to Sale provides access to two private schools. Monash University Gippsland Campus is 45 minutes drive away. There are many sports and social clubs connected to the excellent community facilities used for golf, tennis, swimming, lawn bowls, cricket, football, netball, basketball, badminton and flying.

Yarram is situated between the splendour of the Ninety-Mile Beach and the beautiful Strzlecki Ranges, in an area rich in natural parks and superb scenery. It is a short drive to the coast at historic Port Albert and the renowned Wilson’s Promontory is just a one hour drive away.


Getting there:
Yarram is 220 km south-east of Melbourne, a two and a half hour drive. There is a twice-daily bus service to Melbourne and a bus service connects with the Traralgon to Melbourne rail system.
