This Scheme aims to attract GPs with post graduate general practice qualifications or recognised general practice experience of at least four years to work in areas of greatest need in rural Victoria. The benefits for doctors selected and placed in the Scheme include:
- Facilitation of access to a Medicare provider number
- A reduction in the ten year moratorium on Medicare provider numbers to five years
The Victorian Department of Human Services (DHS) funds the Scheme in Victoria.
The Clinical Practices Advisory Committee (CPAC), appointed by the Victorian Minister of Health, determines selection of doctors into the Scheme. RWAV is responsible for the administration of the Scheme and conducts the assessment of doctors eligible for the Scheme.
