TRDs is a generic term, and in Victoria refers to OTDs who do not have permanent residency and who are interested in working in rural Victoria on a temporary basis.
In order to access a Medicare provider number, TRDs must work in an approved district of workforce shortage. The Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing (DoHA) is responsible for declaring an area a district of workforce shortage.
In order to be eligible for medical registration, a TRD may also be required to work in an area of need. The Victorian Department of Human Services (DHS) is responsible for declaring an area of need.
