Need some time out? the RWAV Locum Program can help by providing locum relief for holiday, sickness or CPD . We cover all of
Victoria (RA2-5) rural and regional areas working with both solo and group practices and Aboriginal Health communities.
How it works
RWAV will either fill your vacancy with an “RWAV employed locum” or “Casual Brokerage locum“ depending on availability and eligibility.
To ease your workload we assist in the whole recruitment process from start to finish and this includes;
- Advertising your vacancy on our website
- Contacting our database of locums
- Assisting with administration including obtaining Medicare provider numbers
- Referencing and help with credentialing paperwork
- Liaising with locums regarding the fees and placement terms
- Providing handover guidelines
- Locum check in and support during the placement
- Completing evaluations at end of placement
Typically weekly placements are 10 sessions between 8.00am to 6.00pm Monday to Friday and 9.00am to 12.00 noon Saturday, with
15 minute appointments.
Locums usually request either a fixed session fee or a % of the billings. Practices are required to pay and provide suitable
self-contained accommodation, provide a vehicle if required and reimburse reasonable travel costs for the locum.
Financial assistance to ease cost of your locum
Rural GP Locum Program (RGPLP)
Rural Health Workforce (RHW), in partnership with the Rural Workforce Agencies in each State and the Northern Territory,
provide rural and remote GPs the opportunity to access vocationally recognised GP locums through the Rural GP Locum
Program (RGPLP). The Program is funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing and provides financial
assistance to allow rural GPs to access locum coverage while taking a break from their practice.
Applying for a Locum under the Rural GP Locum Program
RGPLP provides rural and remote GPs with access to locums and to a subsidy to offset the cost of engaging the locum. To be
eligible to apply for locum relief under the Program, you need to be working as a GP in a rural or remote area (ASGC-RA 2-5 locations).
Please note that rural and remote GPs in communities with three or fewer GPs will be given priority in addition to solo practices
and more remote practices.
What are the RGPLP Subsidies?
The following subsidies are available to the host GP and the locum GP under RGPLP:
- $500 per day for a maximum of 14 days per GP host per financial year – paid directly to the GP Host
- A maximum of $500 per placement for locum travel time – this subsidy is paid to the locum. (Only payable for a one-way journey greater
than 2 hours)
- Additional funding may be allocated for travel costs to and from the RGPLP locum assignment * eligibility criteria applies
Note: All subsidies are only payable once an evaluation form has been completed by the locum and the practice
and returned to RWAV.
