As a locum you’ll love the life in rural Victoria. You choose the location, workload, type of work and timeframe that suits you.
RWAV will find the best available option for you and we cover all of Victoria (RA2-4 ) rural and regional areas, working with
both solo and group practices and Aboriginal Health communities.
Flexible locum options
RWAV can offer an employment arrangement that suits your individual needs –
we offer full-time, part-time or casual work assignments.
RWAV offers the flexibility of two types of employment along with great benefits and conditions (depending on eligibility).
Casual locums
Are not employed by RWAV but offer their services to locum on an adhoc basis. All fees and agreements are between the practice
and the locum but RWAV will assist with the placement from start to finish, arrange all your paperwork, provider numbers and
assist with the negotiations and handover. Locums can either agree to fill a current vacancy or give us preferred dates and /or
locations and we can find a suitable placement. Fees and Terms vary for each practice and can be fixed session fee or % billings
and all terms can be negotiated to suit.
RWAV employed locums
Locums are employed by RWAV for an agreed period (minimum is 3 months up to 12 months) and during this time you will be placed
in practices around Victoria for 1-3 weeks cover at a time.
Typically weekly placements are 10 sessions between 8.00am to 6.00pm Monday to Friday and 9.00am to 12.00 noon Saturday. Most
practices require the locum to have VMO (Visiting Medical Officer) rights particularly the solo practices attached to rural
hospitals. You may also be asked to do hostel and nursing home visits. After-hours/On-call is often required, again in the
smaller towns where there is only 1 GP it is crucial to have support for when the doctor is away.
With RWAV you get the advantage of guaranteed income plus great benefits which may include;
- Fortnightly pay based
- VMO payment and on call /after hours fees
- Paid Annual leave and sick leave + leave loading
- Superannuation @ 9%
- Fully paid motor vehicle for personal and business usage /car allowance and fuel fees

- Paid Medical registration, and insurance Indemnity(pro-rata)
- Paid Emergency training up-skilling if required
- Salary sacrifice – up to $16,050 of salary under our FBT charity status which would mean not having to pay tax on that amount

Rural GP Locum Program (RGPLP)
Rural Health Workforce (RHW), in partnership with the Rural Workforce Agencies in each State and the Northern Territory, provide rural
and remote GPs the opportunity to access vocationally recognised GP locums through the Rural GP Locum Program (RGPLP). The Program is
funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing and provides financial assistance to allow rural GPs to access locum
coverage while taking a break from their practice.
Becoming a locum under the Rural GP Locum Program
RGPLP has a national pool of vocationally recognised GPs who have expressed interest in supporting their rural and remote
colleagues through the provision of locum services. Rural Workforce Agency Victoria (RWAV) will liaise with locums registered
on the national pool to match them with a locum placement that will meet their needs. As a locum you can choose to work across
any States as well as the Northern Territory or locum closer to home - the choice is yours!
To register to become part of the RGPLP locum pool, a GP will be required to have unconditional
Medical Registration with the
Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and be recognised as a GP for the purposes of the Medicare Benefits Schedule.
As an RGPLP locum you will be engaged directly by the rural GP (referred to as a host GP) you undertake the locum placement for.
RGPLP provides the host GP with a subsidy to assist with the funding of your locum engagement.

GP Locum Program, visit the RGPLP website here. |
