If you appoint a rural GP locum you are responsible for:
- Ensuring a completed and signed Locum Request Form is sent back to RWAV giving information on dates locum support required,
detailed practice profile, skills required, and a description of the professional and personal facilities available to the locum
including appropriate consultation and referral networks, accommodation and transport
- Referee checking relating to the specific tasks and the environment of the placement
- Assessing the locum’s experience and qualifications
- Supporting the credentialing process by the locum with the Local Health District for any Visiting Medical Officer requirements
within the local hospital system
- Negotiating an agreement and documenting the decision to employ the locum; detailing the locum’s workload for the duration of
the assignment including after hours on-call duties, VMO, Hostel and Nursing home visits
- Organising suitable fully self-contained accommodation for the locum and transport if required
- Providing a comprehensive handover before and after the placement. Handover to include briefing for the locum on clinical,
professional and personal and other issues to ensure continuity of care for patients and orientation to the practice
- Completing an evaluation form at the end of the assignment to enable us to improve our service and provide valuable, appropriate
feedback to the locum
- Completing and returning subsidy forms to RWAV for payment (if eligible under RGPLP)
- Read and comply with the RWAV Practice Guidelines and Obligations Manual
