The 2010 Victorian Rural Doctors’ Awards proudly recognise doctors (and spouses) who have:
- contributed 35 years service (or more) to their rural communities; and/or
- made an outstanding contribution in other ways to their rural communities;
and/or
- worked in rural health for less than two years and demonstrate strong community
engagement.
Selection criteria
Community members, organisations and other medical professionals are invited to nominate a rural doctor (general practitioner or other specialist) and to provide relevant information about their nominee.
The Victorian Rural Doctors’ Awards Selection Panel will judge nominations based on the following categories and selection criteria:
- Category 1 – Length of Service: has contributed 35 years (or more) to rural communities, or
- Category 2 - Outstanding Contribution: in relation to:
- Innovation; and/or
- Professional and Personal Commitment; and/or
- Leadership
- Category 3 – New Rural Doctor: has worked in rural health for less than two (2) years and
demonstrates strong community engagement/involvement beyond the ‘call of duty’.
Nominees:
- doctors - GP or other specialist
- must work outside Remote Area 1 (that is, outside metropolitan Melbourne & Geelong)
- can be nominated in more than one category however a recipient will receive one
Victorian Rural Doctors’ Award
- must be of ‘good character’ deemed by the Medical Practitioners Board, Victoria.
- who are under investigation by the Medical Practitioners Board, Victoria will not be eligible for a
Victorian Rural Doctors’ Award
An award can be made in each category:
- posthumously (within the previous 12 months); or
- to doctors who have retired, regardless of the retirement date (applicable to Categories 1 & 2 only)
How to nominate:
Nominations will be called from:
- members of the public;
- community organisations;
- other medical professionals; and
- other local organisations including: divisions of general practice, local government, specialist
medical colleges, universities, regional training providers and other interested parties.
The Nomination Form must be completed entirely. Partially completed nominations will be deemed invalid and will not be considered by the Awards Selection Panel.

Nominations must be received by 5pm Friday 30 July 2010.
Notification of successful nominees
Successful nominees will be advised, in writing, by the RWAV Chair and invited to attend the Victorian Rural Doctors’ Awards Dinner.
The judge’s decision is final and will be based on the information it receives as well as other supporting information that the panel may seek. The panel reserves the right to make its own enquiries into the veracity of the nomination.
Victorian Rural Doctors’ Award Selection Panel
RWAV will establish an independent selection panel to judge nominations.
The Awards Selection Panel will judge the nominations according to the above Selection Criteria and will advise RWAV of its decision.

Recipients of the Victorian Rural Doctors’ Awards will be recognised at a presentation dinner in Melbourne on the evening of
Friday, October 29, 2010.
