RWAV was established in 1998 to overcome the shortage of rural doctors and improve access to medical services for rural Victorians.  RWAV’s recruitment and ongoing support services have been successful in increasing and maintaining rural doctor numbers in Victoria.

Priorities include recruitment of rural doctors including specialist outreach services, supporting doctors who have been recruited and their families, and providing ongoing support as long as they remain in rural practice.

This includes professional development programs and grants, locum support, marketing of rural general practice, workforce planning and research.

RWAV’s services are delivered close to rural Victorian communities with offices in Traralgon, Camperdown Shepparton, and the head office is in Melbourne.
